The Real Thing RPG

The Real Thing is a self-contained, story-driven, pen-and-paper tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) inspired by the music of Faith No More. Specifically, we have drawn significant story elements and inspiration from Faith No More’s album from 1989 entitled The Real Thing. Myself and Jason Ward are the writers and game designers. James Mosingo is the illustrator and Art Director. Together we partnered with Faith No More to use their IP in the creation of this successful RPG. It was released in October of 2022 and the Kickstarter attained funding in 12 hours and ended over 1200% funded.

For this event we designed and created a social interaction game, a virtual reality game (featured in the above video), and a micro controller (Altar of the Abyss, featured here) interactive puzzle game. Pictured is the finished frame for the Altar of the Abyss. These three games were interwoven into the theme and story for the event.

Original Content
Each map is hand drawn on multiple layers of paper then scanned into PDF format. I then take the individual layers scanned into Adobe Photoshop to finish the map. All items are hand drawn except for a single brush that I use for the tree top forest texture.
